Persimmon Spice & Everything Nice

Price

$4.00

Have you ever had a fresh persimmon? Spoiler...they're disgusting! It's like biting into a mushy ball of dry white wine. No, thanks!

The secret is to cook them until they're mush, then add a ton of sugar and spices, and cook them some more. Kinda like pumpkin butter.

Our family lives on a little farm in Oklahoma, but the only thing we manage to grow consistently is persimmons...mostly because they're invasive and we couldn't not grow them if we tried. We aren't the world's best farmers.

However, all isn't lost. We have gotten very good at processing the truckloads of persimmons that we pick every year. My personal favorite is to make coffee syrup out of them. It's like pumpkin spice syrup, but tangy. Hello, fall!

This pattern isn't quite as tasty as a persimmon latte, but you can use your imagination and maybe sip something delicious while you sew!

Instructions are for one 12" block. Make one and turn it into a pillow, or make 100 and turn them into a quilt big enough for the whole neighborhood (I don't judge!).

What you get:

  • PDF of the quilt block pattern with diagrams and written instructions

What you don't get:

  • A lovely fall day to pick persimmons (if I could sell you that, I'd be in a much different career)

Combine this pattern with the Hug In A Mug and Let Them Eat Cake patterns for a scrappy, delicious quilt that you'll want to leave out year round (even if it means turning the AC down to 65 in the summer and pretending it's fall).
